With a flashy new animated trailer, Metal Slug is getting a new game called Metal Slug Tactics with grid-based tactical combat much akin to Final Fantasy Tactics and Into the Breach.
Metal Slug Tactics is being developed by Lekir Studio and published by Dotemu. Although not many details are known about the game, the press release had this to say-
“Metal Slug Tactics reunites Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma as they lead the Peregrine Falcon Squad into a new battlefield through dynamic, strategic combat. Players wield classic METAL SLUG weaponry, leveraging skill trees, perks, and a super attack-fueling adrenaline system to outwit and demolish flanks of the series’ signature villains. Metal Slug Tactics’ challenging missions build levels from different combinations of hand-crafted terrain tiles, keeping battle layouts unpredictable and ensuring clashes are won through calculated strategy rather than memorization. Roguelite elements make missions highly replayable and victories feel truly earned, but should a cunning squad or fiendish boss persevere, rounds are quick to jump back into”.
The Metal Slug series is developed and published by Japanese developers SNK, who is also known for Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, and Samurai Showdown. The first Metal SLug game came out in 1996 and has seven mainline games, two remakes, and several spin-offs. It features sidescrolling run and gun, shoot-em-up gameplay.
It’s possible to play by yourself or with friends as you fight across repetitious levels and settings, clearing each section of various enemies. In addition, there are multiple weapons and power-ups the player can pick up for a limited time to give them an edge on the enemy.
Metal Slug is only confirmed for PC via steam with no word on other platforms.
