Roguelite Meets NBA Jam in Robodunk

Come on and slam, and welcome to the ROBODUNK.

Robodunk has just been revealed at the Guerrilla Collective Showcase, described as “NBA Jam meets Rogue Legacy, with robots.” on the Steam page. The game features Lego looking robots in teams of two facing off each other in a basketball court.

The trailer for Robodunk showed off a roguelite campaign with co-op, with the ability to buy new and upgrade your bots along the way. The matches seem high octane, with various explosive abilities, tornadoes hitting the field, and skill trees to plough through.

Robodunk comes from developer Jollypunch Games, who previously released the frantic 2D fighter Fly Punch Boom! This followup seems to be a change in graphical style from them, with Fly Punch Boom being reminiscent of early 2000s flash cartoons, and Robodunk being more like Lego diorama sets.

NBA Jam is a long running basketball series, originally released for the SNES, and Rogue Legacy is an indie title, but the two have very unrelated styles of gameplay. It will be interesting to see how Jollypunch will bring the two styles of gameplay together, but for now we only have the one trailer.

A release date wasn’t revealed for Robodunk, other than on its Steam page which says “on DUNK DAY”, but it is currently available to wishlist there, and will be coming to consoles as well.
