Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Revealed

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is the ‘Dark Souls’ of Final Fantasy (I’m really sorry).

The heavily rumoured soulslike game Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was officially revealed today at Square Enix Presents, developed by Team Ninja. The game is set in the world of the first Final Fantasy game, and is being developed by Team Ninja, coming to PS4/5, Xbox Series S/X, and One, and PC.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy origin main three characters, all stood next to each other in a rocky, mountainous wasteland.

The trailer showed off a trio of characters, but seemingly we only play as a single character. It opens with the line “I need to kill Chaos”, so presumably that will be core premise of the game. The combat seemed somewhat reminiscent of the soulslike genre, with a touch of Devil May Cry in there, but with no UI present it’s hard to tell how the game will actually play out.

The game features character designs from Kingdom Hearts series director and Final Fantasy VII Remake Creative Producer Tetsuya Nomura, and will be directed by Daisuke Inoue.

Also announced is a demo of the game coming later to PS5. No other information for the demo was revealed.

Team Ninja taking on the game makes sense considering the difficult and well received Nioh series. Both Nioh games draw from the Dark Souls, but very much have their own take on the soulslike genre, so it will be interesting to see how the final game plays out.
