Ending Monday’s E3 gaming showcase was Capcom. While their panel was short, it did introduce an intriguing new entry in the Ace Attorney franchise: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which had its initial release in Japan way back in 2015 for the 3DS under the title The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures.
Now releasing on the Switch worldwide, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles sees Phoenix Wright’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo travel to London to solve crimes and act as a defence attorney in various trials. While these game mechanics are a staple in the franchise, the new backdrops and timescale setting is what makes this entry interesting and stand out. Spread across two games (The Great Ace Attorney Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve), this looks like a beautifully animated game that will hold an interesting story.
Development company Capcom revealed a western release date for the game during E3 as well as two gameplay modes that will come with the latest entry: Dance of Deduction and Summation Examination. Overall, the game will feature ten puzzling cases that must be solved in order to solve the overarching story.
While the games have never interested me, this entry looks fantastic. Maybe it’s time I return to the courtroom franchise.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will be released on Playstation 4, Steam and Nintendo Switch on the 27th July 2021.
