Spider-Man finally swings into Marvel’s Avengers – but is it too late?

Square Enix unleashed Marvel’s Avengers into the hands of avid fans back in August 2020. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, this team-up venture diverted into a looter-brawler direction that ultimately offered up diminishing returns. The repetitive grind of its gameplay just about skated on the thankfully fun dynamics of each hero. Now, after promising his arrival from the get-go, everyone’s favorite web-head is swinging into the game.

But while the notion of donning the iconic red and blue is attractive, is it unfortunately too late? It’s no secret that Marvel’s Avengers has taken a nose-dive when it comes to player retention. The introduction of Black Panther helped to bring the player count over 1000, according to Steam Charts. Despite those obstacles, Spider-Man will arrive on November 30th (for PlayStation users only).

To mark the occasion, the developers have shared a look into some of the designs that Peter Parker can sport. Your mileage may vary when it comes to these inclusions, but the addition of a Steve Ditko-inspired outfit will definitely please both casual and ardent fans of the character. With Insomniac Games giving players some seriously brilliant choices in Marvel’s Spider-Man, the competition between them is definitely felt. Nonetheless, it is more than likely that more choices (for a cost) will appear down the line.

It will be interesting to see how Spider-Man is integrated into existing levels and whether swinging is satisfying. Will we return to the air-web era of older games or will they take a page from modern iterations? We can hope it is more of the latter but we’ll have to wait to find out.
